The trucker convoy in Canada protesting COVID-19 mandates might be moving forward, but their donations through GoFundMe are temporarily stalled. A spokesperson for the platform said, “Our goal is to protect the generosity of donors and ensure that every dollar donated on our platform reaches the right place. We require that fundraisers be transparent about the flow of funds and have a clear plan for how those funds will be spent.”

Freedom Convoy 2022, which emerged in response to COVID-19 vaccination requirements imposed by the U.S. and Canadian governments for cross-border truckers, has collected over 60,000 donations since it launched, and organizers claim the funds will be primarily used to cover fuel costs, as well as food and lodging for protestors. Scrutiny of the funding distribution is simply protocol for GoFundMe, and they continue to accept contributions for this cause. Funds will be released when organizers submit a withdrawal plan, and convoy organizers are still encouraging donations to roll in. The Canadian government continues to hold its stance on the vaccination mandates, claiming that 90% of Canadian truckers are vaccinated. The Canadian Trucking Alliance, the largest carrier organization in Canada, has called on the industry to accept the mandates while lobbying the U.S. and Canadian governments to delay implementation. Whatever happens at the border, Soren will continue doing everything possible to keep trucks moving and get freight delivered, including cross-border goods. While we hope for a peaceful and quick resolution to this current situation, our goal is to service our customers and meet their needs in the best way possible (https://www.freightwaves.com/news/gofundme-freezes-37m-until-organizers-of-canada-trucker-convoy-detail-spending-plan
