A recent change to the level of insurance trucking companies must have on their vehicles is a hot topic in the transportation and logistics industry right now. Trucker’s must have insurance coverage of at least $2 million. A hefty increase from the previously mandated $750,000 insurance coverage. The act doubled the amount of required insurance as part of the $1.5 trillion Moving Forward Act. The goal of this increased insurance level is to ensure that truck drivers are practicing safe driving on the road. Certain companies are taking the safety of their drivers to a higher level and installing external and internal cameras to monitor the situation on the road as well as monitoring the activities the drivers are partaking in while driving. The goal of these cameras is to rise the level of safety of truck drivers on the road and remove the drivers who are not obeying the rules and regulations.
