After a solid 19 weeks of diesel prices increasing to levels that surpass December 2018 prices, on Thursday of last week diesel prices declines 12.19 cents a gallon and settled at $1.7842 a gallon. The large decline is partially due to the Valentine’s Day snowstorm that covered Texas in a blanket of snow which caused a loss of 5 million barrels per day of refining capacity in the Texas Gulf Coast. Although things are getting back to normal after the freeze, including 6 of 8 refineries, there is still work to be done to recoup the lost time and damages as a result of the freeze.
