Safety while driving is imperative regardless of if you are traveling for work or personal reasons. When you get behind the wheel, it is important to ensure you are not distracted. As individuals get back into the office, traffic continues to rise. However, drivers feel more comfortable partaking in dangerous activities while driving as they believed the roads were safer due to the lack of travel during COVID-19. In fact, “a survey of 1,001 U.S. motorists conducted in January found that one-quarter of respondents thought that roads were safer after COVID-19” (Cafferky). However, the opposite is true, the “National Safety Council reported [an] increase in road fatalities in 2020 over 2019 by 8%” there was also a 17% increase in online shopping while driving, 19% increase in taking videos or photos while driving, 20% increase in checking social media platforms while driving, and a 26% increase in texting and emailing while driving (Cafferky). Please be safe and aware whenever you are on the road.
